What Ottawa drivers should know about DriveON
Ontario safety inspections must be performed at a Ministry of Transportation-licensed DriveON Vehicle Inspection Centre. The technician applies the provincial inspection standard and records the inspection through the current DriveON process. After a pass, the centre emails confirmation of the Safety Standards Certificate.
The certificate confirms compliance only on the inspection date and is valid for 36 calendar days. It is not a vehicle warranty, a purchase recommendation or a substitute for an independent pre-purchase inspection.
What will the technician inspect?
For passenger vehicles and light-duty trucks, the provincial standard covers prescribed areas such as the powertrain, suspension, brakes, steering, instruments, lamps, electrical system, body, tires and wheels, coupling devices where applicable, and a road test. The inspection may include measurements, testing or component removal when the standard requires it.
